Officials & Volunteers

Snow Sports NZ's community of dedicated volunteers and officials are our greatest asset.

As an adaptive volunteer you provide assistance to clients with a disability and allowing them to access the snow and enjoy a safe and fun day.

As an official, judge or event volunteer you help organize and run competitions, you play a critical role in supporting young athletes to achieve their goals and dreams.

Snow Sports NZ sanctions over 100 competitions annually and provides education programmes and mentoring to ensure that competitions are run efficiently and fairly by the rules.

Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the country. Please contact your local club if you would like to help with a Snow Sports NZ race or competition.

Adaptive Volunteers

Adaptive volunteers are an essential part of making snow sports accessible to everyone. Their support helps ensure the mountain is a genuinely inclusive environment where participants, no matter their disability, can enjoy the snow alongside friends and whānau. Volunteers contribute to safe and welcoming experiences, help remove barriers, and play a key role in enabling people of all abilities to participate with confidence. If you are interested in getting involved, reach out to your local resort to ask about current volunteer opportunities.

Race Officials

Volunteers staff the race office, help in the start and finish areas, work as gate keepers and assist with timing, slipping and course setup.  They are responsible for the safe conduct of the event and the accurate timing, judging and scoring. They also play a key role in ensuring that the spirit of the sport and competition is maintained. In the end, officials are responsible for providing the best possible experience for our athletes.

Judges

The Park and Pipe judging clinic is designed to develop knowledgeable and confident judges to support high‑quality park and pipe competitions in New Zealand. This clinic is delivered by an experienced international judge and introduces the fundamentals of judging, including competition formats, judging criteria, scoring systems, and judging roles and responsibilities.

Participants will learn how to assess runs consistently across key criteria, and will be introduced to judging ethics and best‑practice.

Upon successful completion of the clinic, participants will receive their C Licence, allowing them to judge at national‑level events.
