The Halberg foundation will be offering a free shuttle service from Wanaka to Cardrona for Participants under the age of 21 and their family's. We will provide more information about booking this service closer to the festival.
Free Mountain Road Shuttles
Cardrona offers a free mountain road shuttle. Perfect for those who haven’t driven on a mountain road before, want to save on fuel mileage, or simply need nap time! No booking is required, park at the car parks at the bottom of the mountain roads and hop on the next available shuttle.
Mountain Bus Service
Cardrona offers a bus from service from Wānaka and Queenstown to get you up to the slopes stress free. Seats can be booked online.
Parking
The weather can be unpredictable and if you’re planning to drive to Cardrona you must carry chains and know how to fit them. This includes 4WD/ AWD vehicles. Mobility parking permit - it is a great idea to bring this with you as there is limited accessible parking at the top of the mountain.
Lift Passes
We are currently working with Cardrona to create the most streamlined process possible, check back here for more information on the lift pass process closer to the Festival.
Equipment
Helmets are mandatory throughout the festival and are available for hire on the mountain if needed. Skis, snowboards, boots, helmets and outerwear (pants/ jacket) are available to hire on the mountain. We recommend contacting Cardrona to book in advance.
Snow Sports NZ will provide Adaptive Equipment such as mono-ski, bi-ski, outriggers, ski links and high vis vests. We may be able to provide a couple of communications systems however, we suggest contacting us to check availability well in advance of the festival. Due to demand, we may need to rotate some of the equipment throughout the day. We will do our best to ensure everyone has the equipment they need though.
Lessons
We will do our best to accommodate first timers/ beginners with 1x free (1 hour) private lesson.
Food and Drink
We recommend bringing snacks and water to keep energised and hydrated throughout the day. Meals are also available for purchase at the Base Cafe.
Waste & Sustainability at Cardrona
Cardrona operates a pack-in, pack-out approach, with recycling facilities only available. There are no general landfill bins, so we ask everyone attending the Festival to take all non-recyclable waste home with them or better use recyclable packaging only.
In some locations, removing landfill bins is not practical, safe, or appropriate. Medical waste and sanitary product bins will be available where required. Our aim is to significantly reduce landfill waste, and removing bins from public areas is a key part of this approach. Over time, Cardrona will continue working towards a zero-waste mountain.
The Halberg Foundation is once again generously providing subsidised accommodation at the Wānaka Top 10 Holiday Park for festival attendees.
Please note that there is limited accommodation, and families with children under the age of 21 will be prioritised. However, we do encourage anyone who is interested in The Halberg Foundations subsidised accommodation option to fill out an expression of interest form below.
Other options
Alternatively, there are excellent accessible accommodation options in Wānaka - please contact the helpful team at the Wānaka I-Site for more information via email.
