Mount Aspiring College Cross Country Skiing/ Biathlon Squad Heads to Battle the Aussies on their Home Turf

A small team of five students from Mount Aspiring College, Wanaka (MAC) plus one student from Gore High School are heading to Australia to take part in the “Kangaroo Hoppet” Cross Country Ski Race on 23 August 2014 at Falls Creek Alpine Resort, 3.5 hours’ drive north of Melbourne.

The MAC students are all part of the College’s 20 strong Cross Country Ski/ Biathlon Squad who have been training Wednesday afternoons and weekends at the Snow Farm in Cross Country Skiing and Biathlon.

The team members (pictured) are Louis Jones, Ella Maluschnig, Campbell Wright, Hannah McNabb, Ben McNabb, Ernie Maluschnig  (Adult), Ian McNabb (Adult),  (absent Cirque Gammelin  from Gore High School).

The Junior racers will compete in the 7km Freestyle (Skating)  Kangaroo Hoppet at Falls Creek Alpine Resort while the Seniors have the option of longer 21 or 42 km Freestyle races.

Campbell Wright will be defending his title from last year, while the other MAC students are new to this event. Wanaka students have been competing in this race since 1993.
