Snowplanet, Auckland (25 June 2016) - The first race of the winter, the North Island Junior Interfield Series hosted by Northern Snow Circus Alpine Racing Race Organising Committee, took place at Snowplanet on Saturday evening.
Following the Level 1 Race Organising Committee seminar, the ROC went into a full race mode, which gave valuable real life training for the many new volunteers. The race with two courses, course inspections, two runs and prize giving was done and completed in under three hours. Excellent effort by all!
The event was open to athletes from U8 to U21, skiers and snowboarders and saw a fantastic turnout of 107 racers.
As always conditions in the fun fridge were optimal: -4, with clear vis and good snow coverage. The enclosed space gives the race a real stadium feel with the cheers from the crowd echoing off the walls and starting call outs of the next athlete from the commentary over the sound system. 150 spectators packed the Snowplanet restuarant area to get a clear view from the floor to ceiling windows and were able to watch some very close and very competitive runs.

The U16 men's and women’s categories were incredibly close fought with a draw for first in the men's and .01 making all the difference in the women's.
