Michelle Wood Appointed as Snow Sports NZ Performance Services Manager

Wanaka, New Zealand (19 December 2019) – Snow Sports NZ are pleased to announce that Michelle Wood has been appointed as Performance Services Manager.

Michelle has a background in high performance sport having been employed by Athletics New Zealand for nearly 10 years, managing their Athlete Performance Support (APS) programme, and since 2017 as the High Performance Coach Manager. Prior to this she spent time in North America completing her master’s degree and coaching track and field. Michelle is also a former elite cyclist, representing New Zealand in road cycling between 2004 and 2007.

“We are delighted to welcome Michelle into this key role within our organisation,” says Snow Sports NZ High Performance Director, Nic Cavanagh. “Michelle has a broad range of experiences across the sport pathway with valuable insight into high performance sport as an athlete, coach and manager. Her skills and experience complement our team and will be invaluable as we build towards the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

“The opportunity to work in Snow Sports, and build on the momentum from recent success, is something I’m incredibly excited to pursue. I’m looking forward to working with Nic and the team at Snow Sports NZ to continue to grow the programme in order to deliver on the 2+ medal target at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and the 2+ gold medal target at the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing,” says Michelle.

Michelle’s appointment is being supported through High Performance Sport New Zealand’s (HPSNZ’s) Women in High Performance Sport Residency Fund.

Michelle will take up her new position at Snow Sports NZ in January 2020.
