Wanaka, New Zealand (21 February 2013) - The New Zealand Freeski Team members are looking good for some more top-end results going into their pinnacle event of the season: the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships in Oslo and Voss, Norway. The Halfpipe event to be held at Vinterpark on the outskirts of Oslo will run from the 2nd to the 5th of March, the Slopestyle takes place six hours north in Voss from the 6th to the 9th while the Skier Cross will run on 10th of March.
Preparation and fine-tuning are taking place in Europe and Colorado. Apart from Rose Battersby, who is recovering from back surgery and will sit out the event, the team is currently fit and healthy, buoyed by strong results from Halfpipe athletes at the recent Olympic test event in Sochi, Russia.
The eight-strong team has varying individual goals all based on personal best performances with their combined sights set on top-50 percent finishes, collecting valuable Olympic qualifying points, top-16 results, finals berths, podiums and to be crowned World Champion!
“The selection panel had their work cut out for them this year with some tough decisions,” says Snow Sports NZ’s Sport Development and Coaching Director, Adam Dooney. “It is great to see so many quality skiers on the international circuit and in the mix for selection to these elite international events.”
