Ian Hunt

Ian is a partner with Young Hunter Lawyers, specialising in litigation and dispute resolution, and has extensive experience in a wide range of areas including company, employment, insurance, health, professional discipline, trust and estate, and sports law, and has acted for individuals, national and regional sporting organisations and clubs in a wide range of sports.

Ian has particular interest in the governance and culture of high performing organisations and individuals, and performance under pressure.

Ian is a former president of ANZSLA (Australian and New Zealand Sport Law Association), a former director of Swimming New Zealand, and from 2015 – 2021 was a director of HPSNZ (High Performance Sport New Zealand). 

He is currently a member of the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal, and a number of international sporting tribunals and bodies, including the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal, Sport Resolutions International Panel (UK), the FINA Ad hoc Legal Committee, and the FIA Anti-Doping Committee. 

In a former life, Ian was a professional ski instructor/ski patroller/guide and mountain manager, having held various roles at ski areas in the United States, France and New Zealand.  He has been a member of Broken River Ski Club for many years, managing operations and in governance roles, including as President between 2011 and 2017, and the Craigieburn range is a special place for Ian and his family, all of whom are keen skiers.

Ian was appointed to the Snowsports NZ board in September 2022.
