When organising travel and medical insurance for travelling overseas to compete, coach or train on snow, it is important to understand the activities that are included and excluded in your travel insurance policy. Snow Sports NZ have spent a considerable amount of time researching insurance options for staff, athletes, providers and supporters travelling overseas. We have gained advice from AON insurance brokers and other National Sporting Organisations to identify appropriate insurance cover for snow sports athletes, support staff and families.
Athlete and coach travel insurance
We purchased travel insurance for our on snow athletes and coaches from IHI Bupa online here.
There are three levels of cover to choose from. Firstly, a basic option that includes sports medical expenses cover for participation (the activities that would normally be excluded under a standard travel policy). In addition a standard travel policy for day-to-day requirements, baggage, loss of deposits, personal accident and the option to add trip cancellation cover. Within the IHI BUPA offering there is no option to cover the athlete's equipment. You can email BUPA at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone +45 7020 7048.
We purchased travel insurance for our non-snow support staff and families from Allianz who have an online system to purchase leisure travel insurance here: www.comprehensive.co.nz You can also email them at email@example.com firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 0800 800 048
Our recommendation is that you read the policy documents carefully to understand what is included and excluded. Both companies are excellent at answering questions and explaining the policies.
Safe travels everyone!
