NZ Team Claims Joey Cup at the Kangaroo Hoppet Cross Country Ski Race in Australia

A team of seven students from Wanaka's Mt Aspiring College students recently travelled to Australia to compete in the Kangaroo Hoppet Cross Country Skiing Race. Andy Pohl, NZ’s elite cross country skier, travelled with the team and was on hand to offer coaching. The students joined a field of 365 competitors in the 7km race gaining invaluable race experience and achieving fantastic results.

 

 

 

The students achieved the following placings in their age groups:

In addition to great individual placings, the combined times of the top three racers meant Mt Aspiring College won the secondary schools Joey Cup, the first time this cup has made it across the Tasman! 

Coach Andy Pohl placed sixth overall in the 42km race.
