Mike Hanley is a freeski coach on the High Performance Programme working with our development athletes. Mike’s freeski coaching combines skills from his experience in gymnastics, aerial skiing, diving, stunt work and freeskiing. This means our development athletes are coached in their aerial awareness and their technical approach, and challenged in their attitude towards innovation and a clinical view towards competition.
Mike worked alongside Tim Windell to create Windell’s Academy, a bespoke training facility for fostering professional careers in skiing, snowboarding and skateboarding. He has coached some of the world's best freeskiers to medal winning performances at the sport's most prestigious events including X Games and Olympic medallist Nick Goepper and Dew Tour medallist and Olympic finalist Alex Beaulieu-Marchand.
Mike moved to Wanaka with his young family in 2015. They are no strangers to international travel and new cultures as they have lived in five different countries while Mike studied and developed skills in six different languages. Mike also has a passion for history with an emphasis in theology; he brings a broad and interesting set of skills to the Snow Sports NZ table.
