Maria was born in Brisbane and spent large parts of her childhood in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia before settling in New Zealand. The crucial part for our story, however, was the time spent on the slopes of Fernie, Canada. While sister Janina perfected her skills on skis, Maria opted to snowboard. It was here she learned the art of riding the steeps of the backcountry terrain. Maria has since earned a reputation as one of the best female freeriders in the world. A winning 2018 season on the Freeride World Qualifier Tour will see her compete on the Freeride World Tour in 2019. As well as a successful sportswoman, Maria is a practising architect.
