Winning a Freeride World Qualifier on his home mountain was exactly the motivation Blake Marshall needed to take the next step in his competitive skiing career. The Queenstown local is now set to take on the Freeride World Tour in 2020.
Career highlights: Winning The North Face Frontier 4* FWQ at the Winter Games NZ 2019
Growing up in Queenstown and with both parents ski instructors, Blake was always destined for a mountain lifestyle. He began skiing at the age of three, started racing aged five, got in to freestyle as a young teenager and soon found his love of freeride.
As well as earning his PE degree, Blake quietly pursued a competitive skiing career. A win in 2019 at The North Face Frontier 4* FWQ on his home mountain of The Remarkables was just the push he needed to chase the dream of qualifying for the Freeride World Tour. A strong Northern Hemisphere season including third place at a four star event in Montafon, Austria and seventh in Les Arcs, France helped seal the deal and a place on the 2020 Freeride World Tour.
