Ben is a member of the NZ Men's Development Team. He began skiing at the age of two, joining in with family ski weekends at Mammoth Mountain where his family was based until Ben turned six. The Richards family returned to NZ when Ben turned six, relocating to Wellington and travelling to Mt Ruapehu to ski. It was here that Ben first became involved in a ski racing programme.
Disciplines: Giant Slalom, Slalom, Super-G
Having enjoyed success at the junior level - including being New Zealand National Youth Series Champion and earning silver and bronze medals at the Whistler Cup - Ben is now focused on being competitive in the open men's field. He travelled to China to compete in Far East Cups in December 2016 and achieved top 30 finishes. During the 2017/2018 season he began achieving top 20 placings at Far East Cups and at the Junior World Champs in Davos, Switzerland was the third fastest under 18 racer.
