New Zealand’s freeski development team member and freeski's nominee for this year’s emerging talent award, Cam McDermid (Wanaka) and snowboarder Dave Schmit-Rodriguez (Canada) won the final two spots for the World Heli Challenge, which kicks off tomorrow (30 July).

"I am so stoked to be on Heli-challenge, it is a long time dream for me to compete on a world class event like this, and to compete against world class athletes," said McDermid upon learning he'd earned a spot in the comp.

"Competing in the Heli Challenge has been one of my long term goals.  It's come true early, and I am amongst it. There is no way to describe how happy I am just to be in the same competition as most of my idols were once and are still in."

"I have been heli skiing once, it was a great experience and I can't wait to do it again! One of my lifetime goals is to ski a line from a heli, and I think that dream is about to come true.  I feel like I have achieved something just being in the competition."
