LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (July 2, 2010) – It’s the biggest event on the junior snow sports global calendar and Lake Wanaka is hosting the FIS Snowboard and Freestyle Junior World Championships. The world’s top junior freeskiers and snowboarders will take part in a spectacular display of junior sport at its best featuring over 400 young athletes from over 20 countries.

Organisers are calling for snow sports enthusiasts and anyone who wants to be involved in the FIS Snowboard and Freestyle Junior World Championships to attend the volunteer information night in Lake Wanaka on 29 July at 7.00pm at the Lake Wanaka Centre.

The Games will require in excess of 250 volunteers to help the smooth running of the world’s most important junior winter sports event that takes place at Cardrona Alpine Resort and Snow Park NZ from 19 -31 August 2010.

Event organizer, Arthur Klap, said that the fact New Zealand had secured the world championships gave an indication as to how highly regarded it is as a winter sports destination and volunteers play a key role in the competitors’ overall experience.

“Volunteers are absolutely essential to the success of the Junior World Championships and are hugely valued members of the team,” said event organizer, Arthur Klap. “Not all the jobs are snow-related. We’ll need people to help behind the scenes as well as be on the mountains. It’s a great opportunity to be involved in a world-class event, learn some new skills and enjoy the experience of a lifetime!”
